I bought this thin book in late 1983 when I was at the University of Minnesota getting my degree in Computer Science. Many of the terms I had been using; some I had heard from my older brother (who was part of the Southern California hacker culture that spawned this book).I'd come across word that seemed perfect to fit into my everyday conversations. On the blank pages at the end of the book, I scribbled some cuspy additional definitions that midwest hackers had been using but weren't part of the California (or MIT) lexicon. My copy has come apart at the binding from repeatedly thumbing through it for almost 30 years. Some day, I'll buy the 3rd edition of this book (now "The New Hacker's Dictionary - 3rd Edition by Eric S. Raymond (Oct 11, 1996)").Until then, I'll get by with the Jargon File.
